What I’m Playing: I’m still waiting for the Skyrim 1.3 patch to hit Xbox 360. It was released on Steam earlier this week, so it’s only a matter of time. I genuinely feel bad for PS3 owners who are waiting for their Skyrim fix, because it seems like it’s going to take a long time from what I’ve heard. In the interim, I started on my Uncharted box set. I have some mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, the core mechanics of Drake’s Fortune fucking suck. The platforming is shitty in comparison with games like Prince of Persia or Assassin’s Creed (both Ubisoft games, which is probably not a coincidence). The gunplay is shitty in comparison to pretty much everything, including Grand Theft Auto IV (that’s a sick burn, for you non-gamers). The story is decent enough. At least it was, until it went all fucking Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. From what I’ve heard, the zany supernatural stuff only gets worse as in the sequels.
All that being said, this is the prettiest game I’ve played in a long time. That’s the whole thing. Drake’s Fortune is five years old and it’s prettier than anything on Xbox 360. And I’ve been told that Uncharted 2 is infinitely more beautiful than the previous title. I’m actually looking forward ot getting around to it.
What I’m Reading: I’m actually impressed at how much reading I’ve been doing over the last week. I finished all of the Astonishing X-Men run. I can’t believe I forgot that Joss Whedon killed off Kitty Pryde. Like, I subconsciously remembered that’s what happened. I think I just forced myself to forget. It might have to do with the fact that I’d recently read the trade where Magneto pulls off the most badass shit ever and pulls that motherfucking space bullet out of space and saves that bitch.
I’ve got a bunch of trades to read still, including the new incarnations of the Avengers, Steve Rogers’ Secret Avengers, and the actual Captain America Lives omnibus.
Oh, and I’m reading this little book called A Game of Thrones. I can’t say anything that anyone else hasn’t already said. I’m shocked in the sense that I can’t remember the last time I’ve been addicted to a book. Even though I’ve already seen the HBO series, I can’t get enough of the incest and statutory rape and extremely detailed descriptions of food. Seriously, though, I can’t get over just how well it’s written. With video games, you get that “one more level” addiction. This book has that “one more chapter” thing going for it.
What I’m Watching: This week, television and movies are taking the back seat. I only have so much time in a day, and realistically, A Song of Ice and Fire is taking up all of that. So, fuck everything else. Watch this instead.
Winter is Coming. Better find a save point.
