This is one of the things I’m really not happy about with the show. The relationship between Stannis and Melisandre in the books is one of those things that’s skirted around, and that HBO has decided to beat you in the face with. Much like Renly and Loras’ relationship. In the books Stannis is browbeaten by his wife, who isn’t even introduced in the show, into going with the whole R’hllor thing. And here he is seen succumbing to the wile of this fiery witch. But seriously, who could blame him?
